Dear MS. Zrihen

I finished the book the giver. It was a great book. I really liked it. The genre is fantasy. The characters are Jonas, the giver, his mom, his dad, Asher, and his sister. The author’s purpose is to entertain. The point of view is third person. The conflict is characters vs. society. The rating I would give the book is 5 out of 5. The tone is slaved. The mood is scared because what if one person chooses your job for the rest of your life.  The theme is having your own mind so that you could be whatever you want. The author’s perspective is bias. The quote I would choose was “I thought there were only us”. I choose this because Johan doesn’t know that there is whole another world outside of his society. The setting takes place on an island in the Greek peninsula and it is in the future.

So Jonas is about to turn 12. It takes place every year but this is the day that Jonas is been looking forward to because he doesn’t know what job he is going to be. Until the very end of the ceremony he gets to be the new giver. The old giver is going to retire. The giver is teaching him. While he was teaching him he taught him colors, snow, and hot days. Then the giver teaches him about pain. There is no pain in this kingdom. He took him to secret books that had a lot of pain in them.
